For Want of an Energy Policy…
For want of a commonsense energy policy, our nation’s economy and energy security are at risk today. And if that’s not enough to shake Americans out of complacency, start watching the numbers at the gas pump as the volatile situation in the Middle East continues to heat up.
As the instability of oil exporting countries continues, you can bet that the cost of fuel will rise, affecting business growth, job creation and the budgets of hardworking Americans.
The Obama Administration bears much of the responsibility for this impending energy crisis because it has failed to put forth policies that responsibly develop our country’s vast energy resources. Instead, the president has blocked projects such as the Keystone pipeline, stalled offshore oil exploration and development, proposed new taxes on U.S. energy companies and called for burdensome new regulations on the industry.
It is shameful that it takes the threat of an international crisis to spotlight the need for an energy policy that addresses realities here at home and abroad. Reliable, affordable energy should be a top priority for any Administration, and this one has let us down. Now, as members of Congress comes home for a brief break over the long weekend, this is the time to let our representatives know that America can’t wait any longer for energy policy changes that help keep it economically sound and energy secure.
