Governor Pence’s Veto is Overturned
Quick update from the Statehouse – both chambers voted to overturn Governor Mike Pence’s veto of wide-ranging legislation that among other items would have legitimized a tax that was imposed illegally in two counties.
A total of 34 legislators, 23 in the House and 11 in the Senate voted for the override who hadn’t voted against it the first time it came up for consideration. We’ll have more coverage and analysis later.
Gov. Pence’s Communications Director, Christy Denault had this to say after the vote:
“Governor Pence stands by his veto, and regrets that it was not upheld by the Indiana General Assembly today. While this bill contained some positive provisions, the Governor believes that when Hoosiers pay taxes that are not owed, they should be offered relief. Hoosiers can be assured that Governor Pence and his administration will continue to put taxpayers first.”
