Sen. Banks Encourages Committee to Review IPFW Independence

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 22, 2012) – Sen. Jim Banks’ (R – Columbia City) Senate Concurrent Resolution 19, urging the Legislative Council to ask for an interim study committee review of the current oversight for Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), passed unanimously today in the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development.

IPFW currently operates independently, but is overseen by Purdue University. Banks said with the rapid growth of the college, a review was in order.

“IPFW is the fifth largest campus in the state,” Banks said. “With a growing diverse campus, along with numerous academic opportunities, it deserves to efficiently be managed by the appropriate on campus personnel.”
